Rural France

Rural France, or La France Profonde (Deep France) refers to the parts of France which are not heavily populated and are not very near big towns and cities. These areas of France are sometimes the best, as they can really give you a sense of what the French people are like outside of the big settlements, and the welcome you receive while staying here is fantastic. You can visit so many places and do so many interesting things in rural France, and the lifestyle is much more relaxed than in Paris for example. There are many quaint little towns and villages that each have their own feel and aura, and most of these have an interesting history too. The campsites and caravan parks are usually very nice and the self catering cottages are mostly very old yet very beautiful, some being old farmhouses and annexes.

Kaysersberg

This small town in the Alsace region is quite a popular rural town in france. It is situated along the Alsace Wine Trail, so sees a lot of passing tourism. It is quaint, comfortable and projects a very homely image. There are several cafes, restaurants and attractions, but it is the countryside which attracts the most guests. It is beautifully appointed in a traditional Alsace style and has retain much of its history.

Camaret-sur-Mer

Camaret-sur-Mer is a small town on the far west coast of Brittany. It is located near the city of Brest, and as a fishing town, it has a lovely waterfront pier and plenty of fresh seafood in the surrounding eateries.

Arbois

This idyllic town in the Franche-Compte region of France is one of the capitals of the Jura Vineyard area, despite its size. There are many interesting Wine Cellars, a grand Medieval church and the Pasteur Museum, which celebrates Louis Pasteur who lived and worked there.
