Spain is a wonderful holiday destination with the beautiful Mediterranean coast, miles of beaches, a rich history and temperate climate. It offers a range of holiday accommodation from self catering apartments to B&Bs.
Spain is located in southern Europe offering a range of holidays from beach holiday, walking tours or city breaks. This is due to the many different landscapes that are within the country. Popular areas include Alicante, Andalucia, Catalonia with Barcelona and the Costas, and of course Madrid and the Balearic Islands, including Majorca (Mallorca) and Minorca (Menorca).
Alicante
The city of Alicante is on the Costa Blanca and is the capital of the province of Alicante. Sitting atop Mount Benacantil, overlooking the city of Alicante is the Castle of Santa Barbara. From there, you can see almost the entire bay of Alicante and explore the history of Alicante. The city is filled with boulevard lined palm trees, beautiful sandy beaches, shopping, restaurants and bars; it is one of the most well-known towns along the Costa Blanca.
Catalonia (Catalunya) with Barcelona and its Costas
The main tourist destination is Barcelona, offering culture, top attractions and beach all in a city. However, rest of Catalunya offer more of an insight into the Catalonian culture especially in more rural areas. Attractions not to be missed within Barcleona are Sagrada Familia Cathedral, Caso Batllo, National Mseum of Art and the a popular attraction for families is Camp Nou, Barcelona’s football stadium. The area is home to the works of famous artists such as Gaudí and Dalí.
Spectacular beaches along the Costa Dorada, Costa Barcelona and Costa Brava, offer renowned holiday resorts such as Salou, Sitges, Tossa de Mar, Cadaqués and Lloret de Mar.
Madrid
Madrid is the capital of Spain and its largest city, offering a huge range of things to do, places to eat and facilities. This artistic city is fully of culture and lively nightlife. It is home the Triangle of Art, which contains the Prado Museum, the Reina Sofía Art Centre and the Thyssen-Bornesmiza Museum. Wandering around the city you will find bars and taverns to sample a range of delicious tapas, a national delicacy.
Balearic Islands
The Balearic Islands are island located in the Mediterranean Sea; the four largest islands are Majorca, Minorca, Ibiza and Formentera, popular beach holiday destinations. Ibiza is a unique island, rich in history with beautiful landscapes but draws thousands of clubbers to it resort such as San Antonio.
Mallorca, is the largest and best-known of the Balearic Islands, has a reputation of offering Booze, clubbers and high-rise hotels. In reality, most of them crammed into the mega-resorts along the east coast, but there are lots more on offer on the island including mountains, lovely old towns, some beautiful coves, and the Balearics’ only city, Palma.
