The plot centres on Claire Beauchamp Randall, a World War II nurse who gets magically transported back in time to the era of the Jacobites and the Highland Clearances while visiting Inverness, a northern Scottish city. The series has become renowned all over the world, but has received the highest acclaim in the UK and the USA.

Filmed entirely on location in Scotland, this epic series showcases some of the most incredible areas and places in Scotland, which are all real places substituting for the fabricated names used in the novels by Diana Galbaton, on which the series is based.
