Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park, is a place that has inspired and fired the imagination of writers and artists for centuries. It embraces the deep waters of Loch Lomond, the wild glens, lochs, hills and mountains of the Trossachs, Breadalbane’s high mountains and the sheltered sea lochs of the Argyll Forest.

These were the stamping grounds of Rob Roy - the famous outlaw now immortalised in a Hollywood film of the same name. He would drive his cattle along the old drove roads now called the Rob Roy Trail. You can visit the cave where he hid from his enemies next to Inversnaid. Or visit his grave in the the old cemetery at Balquhidder.

The main towns in the area include Stirling, Callander, Balloch, Dunblane and Bridge of Allan. In addition there are a host of small picturesque villages such as Kippen, Buchlyvie, Port of Menteith, Thornhill, Balmaha, Aberfoyle, Brig O’ Turk, Doune or further north, Strathyre, Balquhidder, Lochearnhead, Killin and Crianlarich.

Activities in Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park

The area is famous for its Lochs, Mountains and Hills with a myriad of activities available at the many attractions. In addition to Loch Lomond, the main lochs include Loch Venachar, Loch Katrine with its famous steamship the Sir Walter Scott, Loch Lubnaig and the Lake Of Menteith – the only Lake in Scotland.

The mountains and hills range from the easy and fairly small Ben A’an , Conic Hill, Ben Venue and Ben Ledi to the larger and more challenging Monroes – Ben Lomond, Ben Vorlich, Ben More and Stob Binian

The whole area is ideal for outdoor pursuits. You can climb the hills and mountains, sail on the Lochs, fish in the rivers and Lochs and cycle on the many paths and picturesque routes that criss-cross the countryside.
