Welcome to Fawcett Mill

Our large self catering cottage in Cumbria, the Lake District. The cottage is located near Orton, midway between Penrith and Kendal in Cumbria, in the Eden Valley on the eastern edge of the Lake District national park. It is a country comfy holiday cottage offering  self catering accommodation for up to 16  + 4 people. & specifically set up for significant birthday/anniversary celebrations & family & friends reunions & get togethers.

Overlooking the quiet, unspoilt Howgill Mountains,it is hidden in its own tranquil valley, with a stream running from an adjacent waterfall through 7 acres of meadowland but  just 2 miles from the M6 motorway (jct 38), the cottage  is easily accessible and gives good access to the rest of Cumbria, the Lake District to the west, and the Yorkshire Dales in the east. It is ideally located for travel from the North West, North East, Lancashire, Yorkshire, Scotland,  & the Midlands .

The cottage was built in 1794 as the Mill Owner's cottage, and is furnished in comfortable country style, with oak beams, open fires, logburners, a victorian range & 4 poster beds with full gas central heating , solid floors& rugs  on the ground floor, & fitted carpets on the other 2 floors. The whole party can dine together in the same room in front of the warm Victorian Range. Outside, as well as barbecue areas, there are extensive terraces and patios bordering the stream. Fawcett Mill provides self catering with 3 double bedrooms (2 with 4 poster beds), 4 twin bedrooms (1 with an additional double bunkbed) and a double futon and double settee bed in the lounge (+cots), giving a total capacity of 20.

The cottage has a dining/living room with Victorian range. There is a double futon sofa bed and double settee sofa bed in the upper lounge, which also has tv, video and radio. There are 2 kitchens (one with a Rayburn cooker), a bathroom and a shower room, and there is access through the kitchen to the terraces and barbecue area.   

The ground floor has lounge with comfy sofas, freesat  40 inch tv, video, radio, & logburner fire, the dining area has scrubbed pine tables & seating,  free Wifi  & victorian range; there is a downstairs shower room, a bathroom, 2  kitchens,& sauna . The front door through the porch leads onto the terraces overlooking the stream with the upper patio equipped with bench tables & umbrellas, & stone BBQ.

Fawcett Mill is an idyllic holiday cottage, and provides the perfect gathering place for a large family or large group of friends. It is also perfect for reunions, celebrations,  get togethers, Christmas/New Year/Easter celebrations, or a relaxing break away from it all. Summer or winter the environment and scenery is stunning.

The cottage is in an ideal location for hill walkers, with easy access to the Howgill mountains and fells. The Coast to Coast Walk passes through our local village of Orton where "The George" is a popular stopping off point, being mid-way between the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District National Parks. The village also has a chocolate factory and tearoom. The network of small country lanes and villages is popular with cyclists. Its location mid way between Penrith and Kendal also means that all the main Lake District lakes and fells are easily accessible. Please see the map below for the location of the cottage..
