Sizergh Castle & Garden, England

Medieval house extended in Elizabethan times, surrounded by a richly diverse garden and an estate with limestone grassland flora. Exceptional series of oak-panelled rooms culminating in the Inlaid Chamber. There are portraits, fine furniture and ceramics accumulated over centuries on display. The garden includes two lakes and a superb rock garden. There are many walks from the castle to dramatic viewpoints over Morecambe Bay to the Lake District fells. It is still inhabited by the Strickland family by whom it was built in the Middle Ages. There is also a contemporary café, shop and reception area in re-landscaped car park
