Hilary Finney opened Harmony House Cookery School in 2008 . Hilary was trained at the Cordon Bleu School of Cookery in London and has over 30 years experience cooking, catering and teaching. 

What makes us different from other schools?

Everyone works together around a large island and not in individual units which is less intimidating and more informal

The surroundings, equipment and the dishes can be easily identifiable and are based on a domestic rather than restaurant environment

Our groups are small and relaxed and refreshments are available

Our special days which during the week have a minimum of 4 persons are an ideal get together for friends and family to have a great day out cooking and eating together and learning new ideas and techniques

The students work in pairs to cover a large assortment of dishes. This enables the students to have both visual and flavour insights of how all the dishes can be cooked at home and means they are not trying to produce  identical dishes to the next person

So that you can easily recreate the dishes you learn to cook at Harmony House we use easily found domestic kitchen equipment and our surroundings are a specially adapted country kitchen. The perfect end to your time at Harmony house Cookery School is sharing and enjoying the dishes you have prepared together. 

Our bed & breakfast accommodation allows you to come and stay with us to cook and then visit the historic City of York and surrounding beautiful countryside and coast.             You can  STAY: cook  or cook & stay

 If you are staying nearby you can cook a meal together then take it back to your accommodation to eat with other friends or family should they prefer a different day out.  

Hilary has been honoured to manage and provide catering for events at York Art Gallery, Hovingham Hall, Burton Agnes Hall, Everingham Hall, Mulgrave Castle, York Minster, Selby Abbey, Food Solutions also provided catering for Yorkshire Gents Cricket Club, and York Medical Society. During this time Hilary cooked for the Duke of Edinburgh, Duke of Norfolk, David Frost, Clarissa Dixon Wright and many more famous personalities.

For 15 years, Hilary cooked for the Duke of Norfolk’s family, Lord and Lady Gerald Fitzalan Howard at Carlton Towers for their weekend and holiday entertaining, She has also spent many years teaching adult education courses and also tutoring students through City & Guilds  at Selby College.
