Bedforshire
Bedfordshire is bordered by Cambridgeshire in the east, Northamptonshire in the north, Buckinghamshire in the west and Hertfordshire in the south. This makes it a perfect county for a larger tour of the east of England.
Attractions
There are many great attractions for holidays in Bedfordshire, from ancient castles and churches such as Bedford Castle and Woburn Abbey, to great family activities like the Woburn Safari Park and Whipsnade Wildlife Park. Bedford
Bedford is the main county town of Bedfordshire, and is the location of some of the most magnificent accommodation. The River Ouse passes directly through the centre of the town, and along the banks are verdant gardens known to the locals as the Embankments. The huge church of St Paul in St Pauls square in the centre of town forms the historic heart of Bedford. The Bedford Castle Mound marks the old site of Bedford Castle, and speak of a much deeper and older history to Bedford, having been built around 1100AD by Kind Henry I. To find out more about the local history, you can visit the Higgins Art Gallery and Museum, which showcases some of the towns best art and historic pieces to the public in the carefully recreated Victorian 'Higgins House', a family house of well known local brewers in Victorian times.
Luton
Luton is a University Town located around 30 miles north of London, making it a great base for travelling into the City on a day trip, while still maintaining the feel and character of a smaller township. There are numerous great attractions throughout the town, and there is something for everyone. Luton airport makes Luton a great place to fly into from Europe and the rest of the world, and has many different types of accommodation to house the thousands of tourists who flock to the area every year. Stockwood park is a large natural area located next to the M1, in which is located the Stockwood Discovery Centre a free museum that houses the Mossman Collection and Luton history, archaeology and geology. Also in the park are an athletics track, an 18-hole golf course, several rugby pitches and some lovely green areas of open space.
