Ballycroy National Park
The Ballycroy National Park is located in the Owenduff area of Northwest County Mayo. It is one of the largest areas of peatland in Europe, and consisting of 117.79 square kilometres of bogs, moorlands, cliffs and rivers. There is a hugely diverse range of flora and fauna in the region, and for this, Ballycroy was dedicated a Special Area of Conservation and granted National Park status in 1998.
In the Owenduff River, there is prolific Trout and Salmon fishing, which makes this the perfect place for a quiet fishing holiday, and the mountains and cliffs make excellent climbing, walking, abseiling and kayaking territory. The National park also has many different kinds of flora, fauna and wildlife suiting bird watchers, nature lovers, families and walkers. Some of Ireland’s beautiful villages and towns surround the national park such as Ballycroy, Westport, Newport, Bagnor and seaside village of Mulrany. There is a variety of accommodation in the area, so there is something for everyone in this beautiful region.
